When to Consider Custom Coatings:

Custom industrial coatings aren’t for everyone. Standard "off-the-shelf" coatings provide viable appearance and protection for many products. However, not all products and paint lines conform to standard coatings:

  • Work-in-Process Bottlenecks: Is your current coating taking too long to cure, making your paint line a bottleneck in your operation? It may be time to locate a custom industrial coating solution that suits your evolving production needs.
  • Difficult Substrates: Some materials are infamously difficult to adhere to. Many plastics, including PET plastic and aluminum, make transfer efficiency a major challenge. If paint transfer efficiency is creating issues on your paint line despite your best efforts in surface preparation and other precautions, it may be time to re-examine your coating. Custom formulated industrial coatings with adhesion-promoting additives may be the right fit.
  • Harsh End-Use Environment: Different products call for different coatings. The standard coating on the metal cabinet in your office wouldn’t cut it on a cargo ship, just as the cargo ship’s custom coating is vastly over-engineered to protect a filing cabinet. The more rigorous a product’s end-use environment, the more likely it will require a custom industrial coating.
  • Regulatory and Environmental Concerns: Does your product require a robust solvent-based coating that has become more heavily regulated? Is your company looking for a more environmentally friendly industrial coating solution that still provides the wear resistance needed in your product’s end-use environment? Seek out a custom formulated, high-performance, water-based industrial coating.
